9. Over

Mon, Dec 9:
  • Design went underway
Tues, Dec 10:
  • Annoyingly, there are still articles without photos. which is slowing down the production of the magazine
Wed, Dec 11:
  • The magazine design and production came to an end.
  • Everything is finished

8. Survivor

Thurs, Dec 5:
  • With our deadline looming, articles were completed and pictures were found in order to kick the design stages off.
Fri, Dec 6:
  • As one of our group members has left our course, it's been left to me to get the photos for his articles. Unfortunately, all his articles are film related which is proving difficult in obtaining royalty-free photos

7. Simple Things

Fri, Nov 29:
  • As editor and assistant editor respectively, Sam and I compiled an article list which has the articles organised into three sections: (Film/TV, Music, Christmas) with their corresponding pages

6. All Alright

Tues, Nov 19:
  • Another group meeting today, sans Andy as a new team
Thurs, Nov 21:
  • Sam, Rosina and I discussed design in detail and compiled an article list and morale seems to have been boosted with a new sense of direction and purpose
  • We all agreed on the idea of having 'mini-deadlines' in order to combat complacency within the group
  • The rest of the group joined us as Tony set us the tasks of evaluating each other
  • We then worked on articles due in for tomorrow's 4pm deadline
Fri, Nov 22:
  • For the first time, we all came in in the morning and did a full day's work.
  • Everyone met the 4pm deadline
  • Daniel informed us that he would be transferring onto the Film & TV course as a first year which does disrupt things in the group
  • He did vow to still helping with the magazine on Fridays etc as he doesn't want to let the team down and he can help where he can etc.

5. Going Through Changes

 Tues, Nov 12:
  • Another group meeting today, sans editor again. We agreed that things are pretty much the same as they were with the last issue and we were heading down that road again
Thurs, Nov 14:
  • The class presentations went ahead today with Andy solely creating our group presentation
  • As such, he gave the presentation by himself with the rest of us in the background for group solidarity, i suppose
  • However, I edited the magazine pages on Indesign, just to get rid of the obvious atrocities for Andy to present to the class instead of showing everyone the online version
  • The class presentations pointed out that our group needed a lot of work done - we have no direction, little leadership and we proved to be clueless in things such as distribution of the eventual magazines and therefore reasonable printing costs
  • Later on, sans editor, we discussed all of the above problems and decided to hit the reset button
  • We all decided to make Sam the new editor
Fri, Nov 15:
  • As the new editor, Sam assigned us all new roles which we are all going to stick to!!
  • I have been given the role as ASSISTANT EDITOR & DESIGN EDITOR and as such have relinquished my online editor role
  • Andy has joined Rosina in being an article 'subber' whilst Daniel (social media editor) and Jake have taken on Film & TV and Student Life stories respectively

4. Worthy Of?

Tues, Nov 5:
  • After many delays and tensions within the group, we managed to publish a very rough looking first issue. Because of this, it was solely an online magazine (Issu) instead of having a printed edition to coincide with its online upload
  • It was a disaster first issue - un-subbed versions of articles were put in by mistake and the design was clunky and not thought out - due to time constraints
Thurs, Nov 7:
  • Group tensions from Tuesday spill over onto today. Morale is pretty low. Not good for a working environment
  • Official roles were either clarified/changed in a group meeting with everyone present
  • An article list was compiled with a plan to make the second issue even better and to actually get it printed!
  • Sam also designed a house style for article layout
Fri, Nov 8:
  • After the first issue, Tony gave the third years the responsibility of designing the magazine pages whilst the second years focus on their writing
  • Therefore, official roles were changed once again with Sam and I being design editors, Jake and Daniel being writers and Andy remaining as editor (vowed to be more of a presence from hereon-out but already booked ticket to Ireland for beginning of next week)

3. Without You

Wed, Oct 30:
  • Group confusion after editor goes MIA where a Facebook space is created so we can discuss ideas/problems relating to our project
  • A unanimous decision is made to properly assign roles to all six of us in the group, sans editor (no Facebook)
  • An official deadline has still not been set for publication
Thurs, Oct 31:
  • Had a group meeting, sans editor with Tony discussing the obstacles we were facing.
  • We are now creating a monthly magazine instead of fortnightly with the one we are working on being the November issue
  • Sam was made honorary editor in the absence of editor

Fri, Nov 1:
  • Collaborated with our Graphic Designer on our official logo
  • Still no editorial presence so the rest of us started to get on with subbing articles and design
  • Took some subbing home to do over the weekend as more articles were being finished up for our new deadline (sometime next week)

2. Can't Tell Me Nothing

Thurs, Oct 17:

  • After spending the week writing the articles agreed on, I had finished my first drafts.

Thurs, Oct 24:

  • Designed the temporary logo to accompany the new Facebook page which I set up. Also gave the editor some of my design ideas.
  • Had a group meeting with Tony

1. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

Thurs, Oct 10:

  • The group was formed of myself, Sam Sadler, Rosina, Andy Lambert, Daniel Jones and Jake. With Andy as editor, we were assigned with the task of creating a production plan as a group
  • The idea of making an entertainment magazine (music, TV, film, student life) to be published fortnightly was agreed upon by everyone
  • It was here in which I came up with the name of our magazine: The Scope
  • Individual roles were loosely assigned to members of the group. All of them either were either not feasible or given to make everyone feel like they were doing something of importance. Not a good start!
